THERMO Valve & Purge Control Valve

  1. With engine coolant temperature below 97-131°F (36-55°C), remove upper hose from purge control valve. Connect vacuum pump/gauge to hose. Start engine and run at idle speed. Check that there is no vacuum. If there is vacuum, replace thermo valve and retest.
  2. With engine coolant temperature above 97-131°F (36°-55°C), remove upper hose from purge control valve. Connect vacuum pump/gauge to hose. Start engine and run at idle speed. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Check that there is vacuum.
  3. If there is no vacuum, check thermo valve by pinching off hose between thermo valve and air cleaner. If there is vacuum, replace thermo valve. If there is no vacuum, check connecting vacuum hoses for leaks and obstructions.
