SURGING IDLE SPEED - FAST IDLE CONTROL

YEAR(S): 1986

MANUFACTURER: Honda

MODELS: Civic

DATE OF ISSUE: June 1993

ISSUE & TIP

A leaking fast idle control valve may cause a surging idle speed on 1986 Civic models equipped with PGM-FI. Check the basics first and make sure the idle speed is correctly adjusted, then check the fast idle control valve.

Remove the cover. When the engine is hot there should be no air flow at the fast idle control valve. If there is, replace the valve.
