SERVICE INFORMATION

Do you ever have trouble remembering which way the disc spring goes on the clutch piston? Depending on the clutch, some go with the concave side up and some go with the convex side up. Here's an easy way to keep them straight:

On clutch pistons with multiple cut-outs around the inside of the spring groove, always install the disc spring with the concave side up. The multiple cut-outs are actually "stakes" that hold the spring in the groove. The spring can be removed for cleaning, but it shouldn't fall out under its own weight. If the stakes won't hold the spring in, replace the clutch piston (which comes with a new disc spring.)

On clutch pistons with only one cut-out (for the check valve hole), always install the disc spring with the convex side up. Nothing holds the spring in the piston until the clutch is reassembled.

Note: A few models use a clutch piston with one cut-out and a flat

disc. The flat disc can be installed either way.
