Fuel Pressure Testing
NOTE:
Relieve fuel pressure before proceeding with this test.
- Remove service bolt at fuel filter and attach fuel pressure gauge. Start engine. Measure fuel pressure with engine idling and vacuum hose disconnected from pressure regulator. Pressure should read 33-39 psi (2.53-2.57 kg/cm2 ).
- If fuel pressure is not as specified, first check fuel pump. If pump is okay, check the following:
- If fuel pressure is higher than specified, inspect for pinched or clogged fuel return line or piping, or check for faulty pressure regulator.
- If fuel pressure is lower than specified, check for clogged fuel filter, pinched or clogged fuel hose from fuel tank to fuel pump, pressure regulator failure, leakage in fuel lines, or pinched, broken or disconnected regulator vacuum hose.
