Fuel Injection System - HONDA PGM-FI: Description
There are 3 main parts of the PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection) system: Air intake system, electronic control and fuel delivery system. To provide the correct air/fuel mixture, engine speed and absolute pressure in the intake manifold are used to determine the amount of fuel to be injected. This is known as a speed-density method of fuel control.
The system uses an 8-bit microcomputer and various sensors to provide accurate control of air/fuel mixture under all operating conditions. At the precise time a piston is on its intake stroke, fuel is injected into the correct intake manifold runner (sequential injection).
NOTE:
Only primary subsystems which affect fuel system operation will be covered. For further information, see HONDA ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEM in COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS section.
