Steering Column: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. If necessary, remove air bag inflator module, steering wheel, clockspring coil and combination switch. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG INFLATOR MODULE, STEERING WHEEL and CLOCKSPRING COIL & COMBINATION SWITCH.
- Remove steering column hole cover and knee bolster. Remove upper universal joint pinch bolt. Separate upper and lower steering shafts. Unplug wiring connectors to steering column.
- Remove steering column mounting nuts. On A/T equipped models, remove shift interlock cable clamp screw at rear of ignition switch. Disconnect shift interlock cable from ignition switch. On all models, pull steering column from vehicle.
NOTE:
Steering column and shaft are serviced as an assembly only. DO NOT attempt to disassemble shaft from steering column.
