Diagnosis & Repair
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn all accessories off. Using scan tool, monitor PSP switch. Turn steering wheel fully to right or left. If scan tool indicates ON with steering wheel turned until it reaches its stop, system is operating normally. If scan tool does not indicate ON with steering wheel turned, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on and engine off. Disconnect PSP switch connector. Using voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and PSP harness connector. If voltage is battery voltage, go to next step. If voltage is not battery voltage, go to step 4).
- Connect a test light to battery voltage. Probe PSP switch terminal (switch side). Start engine. If test light illuminates when steering wheel is turned fully to right or left, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS. If test light does not illuminate when steering wheel is turned, go to step 5).
- Check for an open or short to ground in Blue/White wire between PSP switch and PCM. Repair as necessary. If wire is good, replace PCM. After repair is completed, go to step 6).
- Check for poor ground connection at power steering pump. Repair as necessary. If ground is good, replace PSP switch. After repair is completed, go to next step.
- After repairs are completed, operate vehicle within conditions under which original symptom was observed. If system operates properly, repair is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
