Description & Operation

Metro & Firefly (Canadian) models are equipped with a Mitsubishi 55-amp generator with an internal regulator. Generator is serviceable and can be repaired or overhauled. Integrated Circuit (IC) regulator is a solid state unit, mounted inside generator to rear end frame. Voltage regulator voltage cannot be adjusted.

Two brushes carry current through 2 slip rings to field coil mounted on rotor. Stator windings are assembled inside a laminated core forming part of generator drive and frame assemblies.

A rectifier bridge containing 6 diodes is connected to stator windings. Two neutral diodes are also used to smooth out voltage fluctuations caused by varying generator speeds. A capacitor (condenser), mounted in regulator, protects the rectifier bridge and neutral diodes. This capacitor also suppresses radio interference noise.
