Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

PCM supplies TP sensor with a 5-volt reference signal. TP sensor contains a potentiometer and idle switch. TP sensor sends an output signal to PCM corresponding to opening of throttle valve and idle switch signal (when throttle is in idle position).

PCM uses these signals to control air/fuel ratio during acceleration, deceleration and idling. These signals are also used to determine idle speed and control EGR solenoid vacuum valve. On A/T, PCM also uses TP signal for automatic transaxle control.
