Cruise Control System: Operation

The CCM monitors vehicle speed and provides necessary commands to actuator to maintain or change vehicle speed in response to inputs from cruise control mode switch. When CCM receives a cruise control command, a DC servomotor inside actuator turns a worm gear. An accelerator cable is moved which adjusts throttle position. A magnetic clutch mechanically connects DC servomotor and worm gear. Cruise control operation is disengaged when one or more of the cancel switches close. Upon receiving a cancel signal, CCM de-energizes magnetic clutch inside cruise control actuator. CCM does not have self-diagnostic capabilities and cannot store Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
