Rear Wiper System Tests: Testing
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Press rear wiper switch to ON position. If rear wiper motor operates, go to next step. If rear wiper motor does not operate, go to step 5).
- Press rear wiper switch to OFF position. If rear wiper motor stops with wiper in park position, go to next step. If rear wiper motor does not stop, go to step 8). If rear wiper does not return to park position, go to step 10).
- Press and hold rear washer switch. If rear washer pump and rear wiper motor both operate, go to next step. If rear washer pump does not operate, go to step 13). If rear wiper motor does not operate, replace rear wiper/washer switch.
- Release rear washer switch. If rear washer pump and rear wiper motor both stop with wiper in park position, system is operating properly. If rear washer pump does not stop, go to step 16). If rear wiper motor does not stop or rear wiper does not return to park position, replace rear wiper/washer switch.
- Using a test light, backprobe between rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Blue wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuse block No. 2 and rear wiper/washer switch.
- Using a test light, backprobe between ground and rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 1 (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace rear wiper/washer switch.
- Using a test light, backprobe between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 4 (Orange wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, replace rear wiper motor. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Orange wire.
- Disconnect rear wiper/washer switch connector. If rear wiper motor stops, go to next step. If rear wiper motor continues to operate, repair short to battery voltage in Orange wire.
- Using an ohmmeter, backprobe between rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 1 (Orange wire) and terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Blue wire). If continuity is not present, replace rear wiper motor. If continuity is present, replace rear wiper/washer switch.
- Using a test light, backprobe between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuse block No. 2 and rear wiper motor.
- Move wiper out of park position. Using a test light, backprobe between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 1 (Blue/Green wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace rear wiper motor.
- Using a test light, backprobe between ground and rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 6 (Blue/Green wire). If test light illuminates, replace rear wiper/washer switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Blue/Green wire between rear wiper motor and rear wiper/washer switch.
- Release rear washer switch. Using a test light, backprobe between ground and rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Green wire). Press and hold rear washer switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace rear wiper/washer switch.
- Release rear washer switch. Using a test light, backprobe between rear washer pump connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Green wire) and ground. Press and hold rear washer switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black/Green wire between rear wiper/washer switch and rear washer pump.
- Disconnect rear washer pump connector. Using an ohmmeter, backprobe between rear washer pump connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than one ohm, replace rear washer pump. If resistance is one ohm or more, repair open in Black wire between rear washer pump and ground connection.
- Disconnect rear wiper/washer switch connector. If rear washer pump stops operating, replace rear wiper/washer switch. If rear washer pump continues to operate, repair short to battery voltage in Black/Green wire.
