Initial Inspection
Before proceeding with any electrical trouble shooting, perform a mechanical inspection first. Some major items to include are:
- Ensure both ends of cruise control cable are connected to actuator and accelerator lever assembly.
- Ensure cruise control cable and accelerator lever move freely and do not bind.
- Check cruise control module and actuator for bare, broken, or disconnected wires or connectors.
- Ensure IG-COIL METER and STOP-HORN fuses are okay.
- Ensure ground connections behind left side of instrument panel above fuse block No. 2 and behind right side of instrument panel, near blower assembly are clean and tight.
- Repair any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) before trouble shooting cruise control system.
- Ensure speedometer and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) are operating properly.
- Check cruise control indicator bulb for opened or shorted filament.
- If tap-up and tap-down functions are the only cruise control problems, replace Cruise Control Module (CCM).
If no obvious problems are found during inspection, proceed to SYSTEM TESTING.
