Ignition Key Cannot Be Removed From Ignition Switch With Gear Selector In "P" Position

  1. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and shift lock control module harness connector C1, terminal No. 3 (Green/White wire). If reading is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or greater, go to step 3).
  2. Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Disconnect shift lock control module harness connector C1. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and shift lock control module harness connector (module side) C1, terminal No. 3 (Green/White wire). Turn ignition on. If reading is 10 volts or greater, replace shift lock control switch. If reading is less than 10 volts, replace shift lock control module.
  3. Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Disconnect ignition key lock solenoid harness connector. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and attempt to remove ignition key from switch. If ignition key can be removed, go to next step. If ignition key cannot be removed, replace ignition key lock solenoid.
  4. Check Blue/Black wire between shift lock control module and key lock solenoid for a short to power. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, replace shift lock control module.
