Mechanical Inspection: Compression
- Check engine mechanical condition using a compression gauge, vacuum gauge or engine analyzer. See engine analyzer manual for specific instructions. See COMPRESSION SPECIFICATIONS
table.
- Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Remove all spark plugs. Disconnect secondary ignition wire from coil.
- On all models, install compression gauge. Disengage clutch on manual transaxle equipped vehicles to reduce drag on engine. Fully depress accelerator pedal to Wide-Open Throttle (WOT) position. Using a fully charged battery, crank engine to specified RPM. See COMPRESSION SPECIFICATIONS
table. On each cylinder, record highest of 4 compression gauge readings and compare with table.
