Diagnosis & Repair
- Connect scan tool to DLC. Select CLEAR INFORMATION function. Using scan tool, place vehicle into CHECK MODE. Operate vehicle within FREEZE FRAME conditions. If DTC P0133 resets, go to next step. If DTC P0133 does not reset, check for an intermittent problem. See TESTS W/O CODES article.
- Ensure O2S1 is properly installed. Check for damaged O2S1 wiring harness or connector. Check terminal tension at O2S1 and PCM connections. Repair as necessary. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Check exhaust system for leaks near engine. Repair as necessary. If no leaks were found, go to next step.
- Disconnect O2S1 connector. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, connect positive lead to battery positive terminal. Connect negative lead to Black wire of O2S1 harness connector. If scan tool reads greater than 1200 mV, go to next step. If scan tool reading is not as specified, go to step 6).
- Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe Brown wire of O2S1 harness connector. If test light comes on, replace O2S1. Retest system. If test light does not come on, go to step 7).
- Check for open or short in O2S1 input circuit (Black wire) between O2S1 and PCM. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, replace PCM. Retest system.
- Check for open O2S1 ground circuit (Brown wire) between O2S1 and PCM. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, replace PCM. Retest system.
