Fuel Rail & Injectors (SFI): Removal

  1. Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain engine coolant. Disconnect accelerator cable and cruise control cable (if equipped) from air cleaner assembly clip. Disconnect Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector. Remove air cleaner hose and cap from throttle body.
  2. Remove accelerator cable and TV cable (A/T) from throttle lever. Disconnect EVAP hose from throttle body. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connectors. Remove throttle body from intake manifold and position aside.
  3. Remove fuel feed/return line/hose bracket from intake manifold. Disconnect hoses from EGR valve. Remove engine hanger and EGR pressure transducer (if equipped) from intake manifold.
  4. Remove EGR valve and pipe. Remove PCV hoses from air intake chamber. Remove air intake chamber. Disconnect fuel injector electrical connectors. Remove fuel pressure regulator, vacuum hose and fuel return hose. Disconnect fuel inlet hose from fuel rail. When disconnecting fuel fittings, wrap shop cloth around fitting to collect excess fuel.
  5. Disconnect fuel return hose from fuel pressure regulator. Cover ends of components to keep out dirt. Remove 2 fuel rail-to-cylinder head bolts. Remove fuel rail with injectors attached. Ensure injectors DO NOT fall out of fuel rail.
  6. Remove 4 insulators and 2 spacers from intake manifold. Remove injectors from fuel rail. Remove "O" ring and grommet from end of each injector. Remove fuel pressure regulator from fuel rail.
