Diagnostic Procedures
If speedometer cable is binding, DTC 24 can be set. Ensure that speedometer cable is free from restrictions and has a secure connection to instrument cluster. If problem is intermittent, refer to TESTS W/O CODES - 1.3L 4-CYL article.
An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire broken inside insulation. Inspect harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and poor terminal-to-wire connections before component replacement.
