DTC 51, Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION: Notes

Exhaust Gas Recirculation Solenoid Vacuum (EGR SV) valve is controlled by ECM. Battery voltage is supplied to EGR SV valve through MAIN relay. ECM completes ground circuit to energize EGR SV valve. DTC 51 will set when system is operating in closed loop operation and difference of MAP sensor between EGR SV valve is ON and when OFF is less than a calibrated value.

1. Checks EGR SV valve circuit for a short to ground.
2. Checks for voltage from MAIN relay.
3. Checks EGR SV valve circuit for a short to ground or a faulty ECM.
4. Checks EGR SV valve circuit for an open in Green wire.
5. Checks for proper resistance of EGR SV valve.
