BRAKE Indicator Illuminated Continuously
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster Gray 16-pin connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If BRAKE indicator goes out, turn ignition switch to LOCK position and go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not go out, go to step 3).
- Disconnect junction block White 4-pin connector. Junction block is located behind left side of instrument panel. Connect test light between junction block terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, replace ignition switch. If test light illuminates, check for a short to ground in Brown/Black wire between instrument cluster and junction block. If okay, check instrument cluster printed circuit for bad connections and cracks. If okay, replace junction block.
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Brake fluid level switch is located in brake fluid reservoir. If BRAKE indicator goes out, replace brake fluid level switch. If BRAKE indicator does not go out and vehicle is equipped with ABS brakes, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not go out and vehicle is not equipped with ABS brakes, go to step 5).
- If vehicle is equipped with ABS brakes, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) White 32-pin connector. EBCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, above junction block. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If BRAKE indicator does not go out, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator goes out, see the ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKE section.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control module 11-pin connector. DRL control module is located behind instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If BRAKE indicator goes out, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not go out, check for a short to ground in Red/Black wires between brake fluid level switch, DRL control module, EBCM (if equipped) and instrument cluster. If okay, repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit.
- Connect a test light between DRL control module 11-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Purple wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, replace DRL control module. If test light illuminates, check for a short to ground in Purple wire or Red/Black wire between parking brake switch and DRL control module. If okay, replace parking brake switch.
