Code 53 (TBI Federal) - Open Ground Circuit: Notes

An additional ground is supplied to ECM. ECM supplies 5 volts to Black/Green wire through a fixed resistor. ECM expects voltage signal to be low. Code 53 will set when a high voltage signal is indicated at ECM for 3 seconds.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Probing Black/Green wire cavity with test light to B+, checks for open in Black/Green wire, a poor ground connection or a faulty ECM.
