Code 52 (MFI CALIF. & New YORK) - Fuel System Circuit, Fuel Leakage Detected: Notes

When the solenoid coil of a fuel injector is energized by ECM it will activate the plunger and pressurized fuel will be injected into each combustion chamber. Fuel pump will operate as long as engine is cranking and ECM is receiving ignition reference pulses. If ECM does not receive any reference pulses, fuel pump will stop after 3 seconds. Code 52 will set when heated O2 sensor output voltage does not exceed .45 volt, engine coolant temperature is greater than 158°F (70°C) and at fuel cut mode, for 3 seconds.

1. Sets up fuel injector tester.
2. Checks engine coolant temperature for proper test conditions.
3. Checks for faulty fuel injectors when engine coolant temperature is between 50 and 95°F (10-35°C).
4. Checks for faulty fuel injectors when engine coolant temperature is greater than or less than 50-95°F (10-35°C).
5. Checks for proper fuel pressure prior to testing injectors for proper balance.
6. Checks fuel injectors for proper fuel pressure drop.
7. Checks for faulty fuel injector(s).
