Chart C-1A, Heated Oxygen Sensor (Ho2S) Check (TBI - Federal): Notes

The Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) has a built-in heater. This heater is operational whenever ignition switch is turned to ON position. The heater causes the HO2S to produce a voltage input to the ECM. This allows for better fuel control during engine warm-up. Codes can not set if heater portion of the HO2S fails. Replace HO2S as an assembly if heater portion does fail.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Checks for voltage on Black/White wire at HO2S.
  2. Checks ground side of circuit to HO2S heater.
  3. Checks heater element resistance. Resistance should be 3-5.5 ohms at 73°F (23°C).
