Removal & Disassembly

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Relieve fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  .
  2. Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect and label all wire connectors, vacuum hoses, fuel lines and cable linkages from throttle body. Unbolt and remove throttle body assembly from manifold. Remove fuel injector. See INJECTOR (TBI)  .
  3. Disassemble throttle body except for fuel pressure regulator and air valve (these components are not serviceable). See Fig 1 . Blow out all passages with carburetor cleaner and compressed air. DO NOT  immerse throttle body in water or cleaning solution, as component damage will result.
NOTE: Thoroughly clean parts with carburetor cleaner. DO NOT  immerse diaphragms, electrical components, or synthetic parts in carburetor cleaner. Dry components with compressed air. Blow out all passages with compressed air. DO NOT  use wire or pointed metal objects for cleaning. Inspect throttle body for cracks, warpage or scratches in sealing areas.
