Injector (TBI): Removal

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  . Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly and mounting bracket. Remove the injector cover and upper insulator. See Figure .
  2. Remove 2 screws and injector cover with electrical connector from TBI. See Fig 1 . Slide injector harness grommet from throttle body, and remove injector.
  3. If injector is difficult to remove, place shop towel over injector. Apply less than 70 psi (4.9 kg/cm2 ) of compressed air into fuel inlet port of throttle body to remove injector. DO NOT  soak injector in any type of solvent or cleaner. Injector is NOT serviceable.
WARNING: To prevent personal injury and damage to injector, DO NOT  use more than 70 psi (4.9 kg/cm2 ) to remove injector.
