Disabling & Activating Air Bag System
WARNING:
Wait about 10 minutes after disabling SIR system before servicing. System maintains SIR system voltage for about 10 minutes. Servicing SIR system before 10 minutes may cause accidental air bag deployment and possible personal injury.
- To disable SIR system, position steering wheel so vehicle front wheels are in straight ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove SIR IG fuse from SIR fuse box. SIR fuse box is located below left instrument panel, attached to junction box. See Fig 1 .
- Remove access cover at back of steering wheel to access Yellow 2-pin SIR connector. See Fig 2 . Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip on Yellow 2-pin connector at back of steering wheel. Disconnect Yellow 2-pin connector. Wait 10 minutes before working on vehicle.
- To activate SIR system, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Yellow 2-pin connector and CPA clip at back of steering wheel. Install SIR IG fuse in SIR fuse box. Install access cover at back of steering wheel. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Ensure INFL REST indicator light blinks 7-9 times and then goes out.
