Throttle Position (TP) Sensor (Metro)

  1. With battery disconnected, remove EVAP hoses, A/C solenoid vacuum valve hose (if equipped), IAT sensor electrical connector and air cleaner from TBI.
  2. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between designated terminals. Adjust or replace switch if it is not within specification. See Fig 1 . See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not within specification, adjust/replace TP sensor.

THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE

Application Condition Ohms
Between Terminals 1 & 2 (1) 0-5000
Between Terminals 1 & 2 (2) 0-5000
Between Terminals 1 & 2 (3) Infinite
Between Terminals 1 & 4 4370-8130
Between Terminals 1 & 3 (1) 240-1140
Between Terminals 1 & 3 (4) 3170-6600
(1) Throttle valve at idle.
(2) Throttle lever-to-stop screw clearance is 0.012" (0.30 mm).
(3) Throttle lever-to-stop screw clearance is 0.035" (0.90 mm).
(4) Throttle valve fully opened.
