Low-Reverse Brake: Reassembly

  1. Install 6 driven and 6 drive plates, 2 spacers, retaining plate, dished plate and snap ring into transaxle case. See Fig 1. Install spring retainer and return spring assembly. Install seal rings on piston.
  2. Install piston in piston retainer by placing even pressure on perimeter of piston and slowly rotating piston. Install piston retainer and compress. Install snap ring to transaxle case.

  3. Using a feeler gauge, check clearance between snap ring and spring retaining plate. See Fig 2. Clearance should be .043-.114" (1.10-2.90 mm). If clearance is not as specified, selective size retaining plates are available in thicknesses of .079-.134" (2.00-3.40 mm) in .008" (.20 mm) increments. Apply air pressure to low-reverse clutch oil passage, and check clutch operation. See Figure.
