Description & Operation
Steering columns are an energy-absorbing collapsible design. Components include upper and lower column sections, steering shaft and universal joints which connect column and steering gear. Some models may have a tilt steering column.
WARNING:
Storm and Storm GSi models are equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Observe the following precautions before performing any repair. Disconnect and shield negative battery cable. DO NOT use electrical test equipment on these circuits. Remove 2 SIR fuses (C-22 and C-23) from bottom of fuse block behind left kick panel. Disconnect Orange 3-wire connector behind lower instrument trim panel, near base of steering column. Wait at least 10 minutes after disconnecting fuses before proceeding with repairs. Use caution when working around steering column (air bag could deploy).
