Code 41, Throttle Position Sensor/Open Or Short Circuit

The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) provides a voltage signal that changes relative to throttle valve angle. Signal voltage varies from less than .60 volt at idle to about 4.5 volts at Wide Open Throttle (WOT).

ECM provides closed loop operation based on information from TPS. TPS also indicates the ofFidle condition to ECM. TPS is normally closed at idle. TPS opens when engine speed is greater than 1800 RPM, which is the ofFidle condition. TPS information is used by ECM for fuel control and many other ECM-controlled outputs.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Voltage should be less than .6 volt at idle.
  2. Voltage should increase to greater than 4.5 volts at WOT.
