Chart A-3, Cranks But Won't Run, W/O ESC: Notes
Ignition coil is controlled by pick-up coil and ignitor module inside the distributor. Pick-up coil pulses ignitor module to decrease voltage on one side of ignition coil primary winding, causing secondary coil winding to produce voltage for spark plug operation. The ECM, located below left side of instrument panel, receives an ignition reference signal on Brown wire to pulse fuel injector at same time as spark plugs operation.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Checking for spark at spark plugs.
- This checks for battery voltage at both terminals of ignition coil.
- This checks the fuel injector.
- Battery voltage should exist on both distributor wires.
- No resistance or excessive resistance would allow engine to crank but will not run.
- Test light should blink while engine is cranking.
