Throttle Body R & I: Overhaul
- To remove injector from throttle body, see INJECTOR (TBI) in this article.
- Remove TPS, fuel pressure regulator and idle speed control solenoid valve from throttle body. See Fig 1
. Remove attaching screws and separate upper and lower throttle bodies.
- DO NOT soak any electrical device or air valve in solvent or other cleaner. DO NOT put drills or wires into passages. Clean upper and lower passages with compressed air only.
- Assemble upper and lower throttle bodies with new gasket. Install and tighten 2 upper-to-lower throttle body attaching screws to 31 INCH lbs. (3.5 N.m). Install fuel pressure regulator with new "O" ring and tighten mounting screws to 31 INCH lbs. (3.5 N.m).
- Install idle speed control solenoid valve with new gasket and tighten mounting screws to 31 INCH lbs. (3.5 N.m).
- Apply thin coat of fuel to new injector "O" rings. Install "O" rings on injector. Insert injector into throttle body. Carefully install wiring harness to injector. See INJECTOR (TBI) in this article.
- Apply thread locking compound to mounting screws and install injector cover. Tighten screws to 17 INCH lbs. (2 N.m).
- Install TPS so its sensor adjusting holes slightly cover sensor mounting holes. See Fig 2
. Turn TPS so sensor mounting holes align. Install sensor mounting bolts and finger tighten only. Clamp wiring harness securely to side of throttle body. To adjust TPS, see THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article.
