Removal & Installation - A/T: Automatic: Removal
- Disconnect air intake tubing and air breather tube from air cleaner. Disconnect battery cables. Remove battery and tray. Disconnect electrical connections and control cables from transaxle.
- On Storm, disconnect speedometer cable and vacuum hose from vacuum modulator. On all models, disconnect and plug oil cooler lines from transaxle. Using Engine Support Fixture (J-28467-A), support engine. Remove 4 upper transaxle-to-cylinder block bolts. Raise and support vehicle. Remove lower engine covers.
- Loosen fluid pan bolts and drain transaxle fluid. Remove front tires. Unstake axle shaft nuts at hub assemblies. Remove nut from axle shafts. Remove tie rod nut from steering knuckles.
- Separate tie rods from steering knuckles. Remove ball joint-to-lower control arm retaining nuts. Separate ball joints from steering knuckles. Using brass hammer, tap axle shaft free of hub assembly. Using slide hammer and Shaft Puller (J-35762), pull axle shafts from transaxle.
- Remove front and rear engine mount bolts. Remove center crossmember bolts. Remove center crossmember. Remove rear transaxle mount through bolt. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold. Slightly lower engine and transaxle assembly at engine support fixture.
- Support transaxle with a jack. Remove flexplate cover. Remove torque converter-to-drive plate bolts. Remove transaxle-to-engine bolts. Lower transaxle from engine.
