Steering Column: Removal
- Manufacturer recommends removing steering wheel and combination switch before removing steering column. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD
and COMBINATION SWITCH
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.WARNING: When moving or carrying air bag module, ensure outward side (pad surface area) is away from you. DO NOT store air bag module upside-down. Accidental deployment could cause serious injury. Store air bag module with pad surface upward and away from work area. DO NOT disassemble or tamper with air bag module assembly.
- Disconnect necessary electrical wiring at fuse box. Fuse box is located at left side of instrument panel.
- Remove steering joint cover. See Figure . Remove bolt at steering joint-to-steering column shaft. Remove nuts from steering column mounts. Remove steering column assembly.
NOTE:
Steering column length should be measured to determine if assembly should be replaced. See Figure
. Replace steering column if distance is less than 20.96" (532.4 mm).
