Injector (TBI) R & I: Removal

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC TESTING article. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove injector cover and upper insulator. See Figure .
  2. Using external snap ring pliers, carefully open electrical connector claws of injector and disconnect. See Figure . To remove injector, slide injector harness grommet from throttle body. Place shop towel over injector. Apply less than 70 psi (4.9 kg/cm2 ) of compressed air into fuel inlet port of throttle body to remove injector.
    WARNING: To prevent personal injury and damage to injector, DO NOT use more than 70 psi (4.9 kg/cm2 ) to remove injector.
  3. DO NOT soak injector in any type of solvent or cleaner. Injector is NOT serviceable. Remove only for cleaning, "O" ring replacement or injector replacement.
