Pinion Gear Return Test
Perform this test after passing SOLENOID HOLD-IN COIL TEST and PINION GEAR RETURN TEST . With test leads still connected to starter, disconnect the negative battery lead from starter housing. See Fig 1. Pinion gear should retract smoothly. If pinion gear DOES NOT operate as described, replace solenoid and return spring.
