Disassembly (Prizm Tilt)

  1. Remove column from vehicle and secure in vise. Remove ignition lock cylinder housing. Remove 2 compression and 2 tension springs, bushings and bolts from upper column tube and steering support. See Figure .
  2. Remove tilt lever retainers and pawls. Remove pawl stoppers and tilt levers and shaft. Remove column pivot bolts with Pivot Bolt Remover (J 38256) and Slide Hammer (J 2619-01). Remove lower column tube.
  3. Using Spring Compressor (J 38364), compress main shaft spring. Remove shaft snap ring. Pull out main shaft from column. Remove thrust collar and bearing.
  4. Remove wiring harness clamp and steering support. Remove snap ring from lower column tube. Remove main shaft collar.
