Repair Procedures: Removal: AWD
- When lifting a vehicle using a lift, be careful not to damage the lower parts of the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank, canister).
(Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")
- Loosen the front wheel nuts slightly.
Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
- Remove the brake caliper.
(Refer to Brake System - "FRONT DISC BRAKE ")
- Remove the front wheel and tire.
(Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")
- Loosen the screw and then removing the front brake disc (A).
Tightening torque:
4.9 - 5.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.6 kgf.m, 3.6 - 4.3 lb-ft)
- Loosen the dust cover bolts and then removing the dust cover (A).
Tightening torque:
10.8 - 12.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.3 kgf.m, 8.0 - 9.4 lb-ft)
- Remove the compression arm pin and tie rod end ball joint nut (A).
Tightening torque:
88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
- Remove the tie rod end ball joint (A) from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-2J100).
- Loosen the bolts and then removing the brake cooling cover (A)
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb-ft)
- Loosen the wheel speed sensor bolt and then removing the wheel speed sensor (A).
Tightening torque:
6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.9 lb-ft)
- Remove the wheel speed sensor bracket bolt (A).
Tightening torque:
6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.9 lb-ft)
- Remove the tension arm pin and castle nut (A).
Tightening torque:
88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
- Remove the tension arm from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-2J100).
- Remove the lateral arm pin and castle nut (A).
Tightening torque:
88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
- Remove the lateral arm from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-2J100).
- By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.NOTE:
- If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.
- Loosen the caulking nut from the driveshaft and then separate the drive shaft from the hub assembly by using the plastic hammer.
Tightening torque:
294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)
NOTE:- When removing the drive shaft, use a plastic hammer in order to avoid shock applied to the axle.
- When removing the drive shaft, do not forcibly pull or excessively bend the axle to separate.
NOTE:- The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one.
- When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.
- Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
- If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.
Caulking depth (A): 1.5 mm (0.0591 in) - Remove the knuckle upper bolt and nut.
Tightening torque:
78.5 - 98.1 N.m (8.0 - 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb-ft)
- Remove the knuckle by using the SST (0K517-J5100).
Reference value: Below 8.0 mm (0.31 in.)
CAUTION:- Be careful not to exceed 8 mm (0.31 in.) because it may cause knuckle quality issues.
- Loosen the hub assembly bolt and then removing the hub assembly (A).
Tightening torque:
88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
