Repair Procedures: Removal
- Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Loosen the wheel bolts slightly.
Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
- Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub.
Tightening torque:
137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)
NOTE: - Remove the engine room under cover.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Remove the front stabilizer bar.
(Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT STABILIZER BAR ")
- Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).
Tightening torque:
98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)
- Remove the tie rod end ball joint (A) by using the SST (09568-2J100).
- Remove the front stabilizer bar.
(Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT STABILIZER BAR ")
- Disconnect the tension arm (A) from the front cross member after loosening the bolt and nut.
Tightening torque:
156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Do not reuse the bolt and nut.
- Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering gear box.
Tightening torque:
32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Keep the steering wheel in a neutral position. Moving the steering wheel may damage the cable inside the clock spring.
- Tighten the steering column bolts in the same direction as they were removed.
- Do not reuse the universal joint bolt when installing.
- Remove the gear box after loosening the mounting bolt (A).
Tightening torque:
107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)
