Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Loosen the wheel bolts slightly.

    Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

  3. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Safely remove the wheel and tire (A) using the centering pin included in the luggage tray.

    • Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).

  4. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  5. Remove the front stabilizer bar.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT STABILIZER BAR ")

  6. Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  7. Remove the tie rod end ball joint (A) by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  8. Remove the front stabilizer bar.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT STABILIZER BAR ")

  9. Disconnect the tension arm (A) from the front cross member after loosening the bolt and nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Do not reuse the bolt and nut.

  10. Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering gear box.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Keep the steering wheel in a neutral position. Moving the steering wheel may damage the cable inside the clock spring.
    • Tighten the steering column bolts in the same direction as they were removed.
    • Do not reuse the universal joint bolt when installing.
  11. Remove the gear box after loosening the mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)
