Repair Procedures: Removal: AWD

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Loosen the wheel nuts slightly.

    Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

  3. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Safely remove the wheel and tire (A) using the centering pin included in the luggage tray.

    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).

  4. Remove the brake caliper.

    (Refer to Brake System - "FRONT DISC BRAKE ")

  5. Loosen the screw and then remove the front brake disc (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    4.9 - 5.8 N.m (0.5 - 0.6 kgf.m, 3.6 - 4.3 lb-ft)

  6. Remove the dust cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb-ft)

  7. Loosen the bolt and then remove the front wheel speed sensor (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  8. Loosen the brake hose bracket mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  9. Loosen the upper arm ball joint mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  10. Remove the front upper arm from the front axle by using SST (09456-4R100).
    1. Install the support bolts (A) to the front upper arm mounting bolt holes.
    2. Install the support body (B) to the front axle.
    3. Widen the gap of front axle by tightening the bolt (C).

  11. Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  12. Remove the tie rod end ball joint (A) by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  13. Remove the snap pin and then loosen the castle nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  14. Remove the tension arm ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  15. Remove the snap pin and then loosen the castle nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  16. Remove the lateral arm ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  17. By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.

    NOTE:
    • If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.

  18. Loosen the caulking nut from the driveshaft and then remove the front knuckle by using the plastic hammer.

    Tightening torque: 

    294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When removing the drive shaft, use a plastic hammer in order to avoid shock applied to the front knuckle.
    • When removing the drive shaft, do not forcibly pull or excessively bend the front knuckle to separate.

    NOTE:
    • The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one.

    • When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
    • If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.

      Caulking depth (A):  1.5 mm (0.0591 in)

  19. Loosen the mounting bolt from the knuckle and then remove the hub bearing assembly.

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
