Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
  3. Remove the LH side stay and RH side stay (A).

  4. Remove the lower bolts (A), after lifting the jack.

    Tightening Torque: 

    39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)

  5. Remove the dust cover (A).

  6. Rotate the crankshaft pulley.
  7. Align the torque converter mounting bolts to the service hole (B).
  8. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A) by the SST No.: 09451-D2100.

    Tightening Torque: 

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb-ft)

  9. Remove the engine and transmission assembly. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE AND TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY ")
  10. For 4WD, remove the front propeller shaft assembly. (Refer to Driveshaft and axle - "FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY ")
  11. Disconnect the wiring mounting clips and bracket after disconnecting the connector (A) and (B).

  12. Disconnect the wiring mounting clips and bracket after disconnecting the connector (A).

  13. Remove the CKPS (A).

    Tightening Torque: 

    6.9 - 9.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.2 lb-ft)

  14. Remove the brackets (B) and parking switch (A).

  15. Disconnect the oil cooler tube (A).

    CAUTION:
    • Replace the O-ring (A) before reinstalling the oil cooler tube.
    • After the installation, start the engine and then check if there are any leakages from the hose.

  16. Remove the transfer case (4WD) (A) from the transmission.

    Tightening Torque: 

    29.4 - 41.2 N.m (3.0 - 4.2 kgf.m, 21.7 - 30.4 lb-ft)

    CAUTION: Precautions of the transfer case handling.
    1. Preventing damage to the ITA (Integrated Transfer case Actuator)
      1. In case of transporting the transfer case.
        • Use caution for the ITA not to collide to the other parts when it is lifted from the transporting package.
        • Use caution for the ITA not to be impacted by the floor or structure.
      2. In case of assembling the transmission
        • Use caution for the ITA not to be impacted by the transmission, floor or structure.

    2. Preventing oil leakage
      • Use caution when disassembling/installing the transfer case. If the horizontal position is disturbed, oil may be leaked even with the air breather valve installed because oil remains inside the transfer case.

  17. Using the transmission jack, support the transmission.
  18. Remove the starter mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening Torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  19. After loosening the mounting bolts, remove the transmission from the engine.

    Tightening Torque: 

    [A] 78.5 - 98.1 N.m (8.0 - 810.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb-ft)

    [B] 34.3 - 46.1 N.m (3.5 - 4.7 kgf.m, 25.3 - 34.0 lb-ft)
