Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  3. Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover (1) - Remove

    Instrument Panel Fuse Block Access Hole Cover (1) - Remove

  5. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  7. Reposition the component to access the electrical connectors.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  9. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster (1) - Remove
  10. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    NOTE:

    Left side shown, right side similar.

    Use a flat bladed plastic trim tool to depress the steering wheel airbag access hole cover detents to remove the left and right steering wheel airbag access hole covers (1).

    Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  13. Release the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  14. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

    Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) @ Steering Column - Loosen

    Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Remove

  18. Steering Wheel (2) - Remove
  19. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  20. Install an appropriate device to prevent steering column rotation.

    Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) @ Steering Column - Remove

  22. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft @ Steering Column - Separate

    Using a small plastic trim tool, separate the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) from the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover and reposition.

  24. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

    Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (1) - Remove

  27. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Disengage the steering wheel airbag coil upper retaining tabs (1).

    Disengage the steering wheel airbag coil lower retaining tabs (1).

  30. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Steering Wheel Airbag Coil (1) - Remove

    Remove the wiring harness clip (2) and wiring harness retainer (3) on the left side of the turn signal bracket.

  33. Disconnect the electrical connector. (1)

    Remove the wiring harness retainer (2) on the right side of the turn signal bracket.

  35. Disconnect the electrical connector. (1)

    Release the locking tab (1) on the left side of the turn signal switch bracket.

    Release the locking tab (1) on the right side of the turn signal switch bracket.

    Remove the turn signal switch, windshield wiper and windshield washer switch, and turn signal switch bracket (1) as an assembly.

    Steering Column Nut (1) - Remove [4x]

  40. Disconnect the steering column electrical connectors as necessary.

    Steering Column (1) - Remove

    Steering Column Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

    Disconnect the electrical connectors. (1)

  44. Retainer (2) - Remove

    Steering Column Control Module (1) - Remove

    Steering Column Tilt Wheel Actuator Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
