Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  2. Place match marks on the steering linkage inner tie rod nut and the steering linkage inner tie rod.

    Front Cradle (2) - Remove - Front Cradle Removal and Installation

    Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @ Front Cradle - Remove [3x]

  5. Engine Wiring Harness Ground Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
  6. Engine Wiring Harness Bolt (3) - Remove

    Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Bracket Bolt- Left Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Bracket Bolt- Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Battery Positive Cable Channel Nut (1) - Remove [2x]

  10. Remove the battery positive and negative cable (2) from the wiring harness bracket.

    Attach the 2 engine hoist hooks (1) to the 2 transmission brackets (2), and support the front electric drive transmission assembly.

    CAUTION:

    DO NOT use air tools to remove the wheel drive shaft nut. Damage to the wheel drive shaft threads could occur. Use hand tools only.

    Front Wheel Drive Shaft Nut- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]

    Install the DT-45859  Axle Remover (2) to the left side front wheel hub and secure with 4 wheel nuts (1) hand tightened.

  14. Using the DT-45859  Axle Remover (2), release the left side front wheel drive half shaft from the front wheel hub.
  15. Remove the 4 wheel nuts (1) and the DT-45859  Axle Remover (2) from the left side front wheel hub.

    NOTE:

    Install the DT-45859  Axle Remover (2) to the right side front wheel hub and secure with 4 wheel nuts (1) hand tightened.

  17. Using the DT-45859  Axle Remover (2), release the right side front wheel drive half shaft from the front wheel hub.
  18. Remove the 4 wheel nuts (1) and the DT-45859  Axle Remover (2) from the right side front wheel hub.

    Using a suitable flat bladed tool (1), release the left and right side front wheel drive half shafts from the front electric drive transmission module.

    Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Output Shaft Retaining Ring- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]

  22. Output Shaft Seal- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]

    Drive Motor Rear Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [6x]

    Drive Motor Mount Nut (1) - Remove [2x]

  25. Drive Motor Mount Bolt (2) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]

    Separate the front cradle (1) from the front electric drive transmission assembly.

    Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect [4x]

  28. Retainer (2) - Disengage [2x]

    CAUTION:

    Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.

    Using J-42188-B  Ball Joint Separator (1), remove the steering linkage outer tie rods from the left and right side steering knuckles.

    Steering Gear Bolt- Upper (1) - Remove [2x]

  34. Steering Gear Nut (4) - Remove [2x]
  35. Steering Gear Bolt - Lower (2) - Remove [2x]

    Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (1) - Remove

    CAUTION:

    Holding the steering gear rack bar with anything other than a non-serrated adjustable wrench will cause damage to the steering gear

    Cover the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear bar (2) with a clean shop towel.

  45. Hold the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear bar (2) with a non-serrated adjustable wrench.
  46. Using a universal inner tie rod wrench, loosen the left and right side steering linkage inner tie rods (1).

    Steering Gear Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [6x]

  49. Save 2 steering gear bolts for the installation of the power steering assist motor.
  50. Steering Gear Housing Cover (2) - Remove
  51. Power Steering Assist Motor Seal (3) @ Steering Gear Housing Cover - Remove and DISCARD

    Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Belt (1) - Remove and DISCARD

    Disconnect the electrical connectors. (1)
