Removal Procedure
- Unlearn the steering angle sensor using the scan tool to perform the reset function listed under the steering wheel angle sensor module. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
- Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling
- The steering column
- The intermediate shaft(s)
- The steering gear
- With the wheels of the vehicle in the straight ahead position, use the CH-42640 anti-rotation pin to lock the steering column.

- Instrument Panel Knee Bolster - Remove - Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement
- Floor Front Air Outlet Duct - Left Side - Remove - Floor Front Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side
Remove the instrument panel knee bolster deflector nuts (1) and deflector (2).
- Separate the upper intermediate steering shaft from the steering column. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- If equipped, disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator. Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Actuator Replacement
- Disconnect the range selector lever cable from the steering column and set aside. Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement
Disconnect the steering column wiring harness connector (1) from the body control module.
- Disconnect the vehicle body wiring harness connector (2) from the steering wheel airbag wiring harness connector (3).
Remove the airbag wiring harness connector from the plastic retainer on the body control module bracket.
- Release the cam lock on the steering column wiring harness connector (4) on top of the body control module bracket and disconnect the connector from the vehicle body wiring harness.
Remove the steering column nuts (1).
- Remove the steering column bolts (2).
- Remove the steering column (3) from the vehicle.
- Transfer components as necessary.

With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components:
After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. If you think the SIR coil has become un-centered, refer to your specific SIR coil's centering procedure to re-center SIR Coil.
