Fuel Pump Replacement

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief 
  2. Remove Fuel Pump Insulator. Refer to Fuel Pump Insulator Replacement 
  3. Remove Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe. Refer to Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Replacement 
  4. Disconnect the fuel pump fuel feed hose from the fuel pump. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
1 Fuel Pump Bolt (Qty: 2)
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

CAUTION:

Alternately hand-tighten the fuel pump bolts one turn at a time until the pump is fully seated. Trying to draw down the pump without even side-to-side tightening may result in pump plunger damage.

Procedure

  1. Add thread locker to the fuel pump fastener threads prior to installing the NEW bolts. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  2. Install NEW bolts.

Tighten 
First Pass: 8 N.m (71 lb in)
Final Pass: 50 degrees
2 Fuel Pump Gasket
Procedure 
Install a NEW fuel pump gasket. Ensure the fuel pump housing gasket is properly aligned with the tab upward at the 2 o'clock position.

4 Valve Lifter Follower
  1. Use the EN-50790  alignment gauge to ensure the camshaft lobe is in the base circle position.
  2. At the base circle position, the alignment gauge will sit flush with the cylinder head.
  3. Lubricate the cylinder head bore with clean engine oil. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
NOTE:
  • The valve lifter follower MAY remain in the cylinder head bore after removing the fuel pump.
  • If the valve lifter follower does NOT pull out of the cylinder head bore with the fuel pump, then remove it afterwards.
