Checking Fluid Levels

CAUTION: When performing the following procedure, use only hand tools to remove and install the drain and fill plugs.
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. See TRANSFER CASE SHIELD .
  3. Remove the fill plug. See Fig 1.
  4. Check fluid level. Make sure fluid is up to bottom of fill plug.
  5. Fill transfer case with appropriate fluid to appropriate level, if necessary. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS  and FLUID CAPACITIES  .
  6. Install fill plug. See Fig 1. Tighten plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Install the transfer case shield, if equipped. See TRANSFER CASE SHIELD .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
