Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Install a new O-ring to the vehicle.
  2. Install the water pump to the vehicle.
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Use 6 bolts (1, 2) in order to secure the water pump.

    Tighten: 

    • On LV6 engine, tighten the water pump bolts (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
    • Tighten the water pump bolts (2) to 11 N.m (8 lb ft).
    • On LNK engine, tighten the water pump bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the left side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine - Left in Body Front End.
  6. Install the right side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine - Right in Body Front End.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. On LV6 engine, install the water pump pulley.

    Tighten:  Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

  9. On all engines, install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  10. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  11. CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.
  13. Use approved engine coolant in order to fill the radiator. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
  14. Start the engine.
  15. Inspect the system for leaks.
