Diagnostic Procedure
- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Record the DTC Failure Records. Clear the DTC. Select TCC Brake Switch on the scan tool. Disconnect the brake switch connector from the brake switch. Connect a test lamp from terminal D of the brake switch connector to ground. Does the test lamp illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 4.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between terminal C and terminal D of the brake switch connector. Did the TCC Brake Switch status on the scan tool change from Open to Closed? If yes, go to step 7. If no, go to step 9.
- Inspect the ABS fuse for an open. Is the fuse open? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 8.
- Test the ignition 3 voltage circuit (CKT 441) of the brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 11. If no, go to next step.
- Test the signal circuit (CKT 420) of the brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 11. If no, go to step 10.
- Replace the brake switch. See ADJUSTMENTS in appropriate DISC & DRUM article in BRAKES. After repairs, go to step 11.
- Test the ignition 3 voltage circuit (CKT 441) of the brake switch for an open. After repairs, go to step 11.
- Test the signal circuit (CKT 420) of the brake switch for an open. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 11. If no, go to next step.
- Replace the PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
- Perform the following procedure in order to verify the repair:
- Select DTC.
- Select Clear Info.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
- Apply and release the brake pedal.
- Verify that the scan tool TCC Brake Switch status indicates Closed, 12 volts, for 2 seconds.
- Select Specific DTC.
- Enter DTC P0719.
Has the test run and passed? If yes, system is okay. If no, go to step 1.
CAUTION:
When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
NOTE:
Before clearing the DTC, use the scan tool in order to record the Failure Records. Using the Clear Info function erases the Failure Records from the PCM.
NOTE:
The condition that affects this circuit may exist in other connecting branches of the circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
