Air Bag System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position while observing AIR BAG warning indicator. If AIR BAG warning light flashes 7 times then goes out, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light does not flash 7 times then goes out, repair air bag system by symptom. See lemon-25® AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR MANUAL, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED MODELS article.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see TEST B: SCAN TOOL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with SDM. If scan tool communicates with SDM, go to next step. If scan tool does not establish communications with SDM, see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  4. Use scan tool to request SDM DTCs. When scan tool displays DTCs, go to next step.
  5. If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with "U", see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS. If scan tool displays DTCs other than "U" codes, go to next step.
  6. Perform appropriate diagnostic test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table.
