  5. Press and release brake pedal. If Brake/TCC LED on Cruise Control Tester turns off, go to next step. If LED does not turn off, go to step  23 .
  6. Place cruise control ON/OFF switch in ON position. Leave this switch on until instructed to turn off. If ON/OFF and INHIBIT/ENABLE LED on Cruise Control Tester illuminates, go to next step. If LED did not illuminate, go to step  25 .
  7. If CRUISE LAMP LED on Cruise Control Tester is illuminated, go to next step. If LED is not illuminated, go to step  26 .
  8. Press and release Set/Coast switch. If Set/Coast LED on Cruise Control Tester illuminated when Set/Coast switch was pressed and turned off when switch was released, go to next step. If LED did not illuminate when switch was pressed and turn off when switch was released, go to step  28 .
  9. Press and release Resume/Accel switch. If Resume/Acc LED on Cruise Control Tester illuminated when switch was pressed and turned off when switch was released, go to next step. If LED did not illuminate when switch was pressed and turn off when switch was released, go to step  29
  10. Perform the following:
    • Press and release INHIBIT/OVERRIDE button on cruise control tester.
    • Press and release BRAKE button on cruise control tester.
    • Press and release S/C (Set/Coast) button on cruise control tester.

If CRUISE ENGAGE LED illuminated continually after S/C button was pressed and released, go to next step. If LED did not illuminate continually, go to step  20 .

  11. While observing throttle lever at throttle body, press R/A (Resume/Accelerate) button on cruise control tester for 5 seconds and then release. If throttle lever moves toward full open position and closes to about one-half throttle position when R/A button is released, go to next step. If throttle lever does not operate as described, go to step  33 .
  12. While observing throttle lever at throttle body, press S/C (Set/Coast) button on cruise control tester for 5 seconds and then release. If throttle lever moves toward closed position and then returns to about one-half throttle position when S/C button is released, go to next step. If throttle lever does not operate as described, go to step  33 .
  13. Press and release R/A (Resume/Accelerate) button on cruise control tester 3 times. Press and release BRAKE button on cruise control tester. If CRUISE ENGAGE LED on cruise control tester turns off and throttle lever closes, go to next step. If LED remains illuminated and/or throttle lever does not close, go to step  33 .
  14. Raise and support vehicle so that drive wheels may be rotated. Block one drive wheel. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Place gear selector in DRIVE position. Observe VSS LED on cruise control tester while rotating unblocked drive wheel. If VSS LED flashes while drive wheel is being rotated, go to next step. If LED does not flash as described, go to step  31 .
  15. If cruise control module harness connector terminal "H" has a wire installed in it, go to next step. If there is no wire connected to control module harness connector terminal "H", go to step  19 .
  16. Following manufacturer's instructions, connect General Motors Tech 2 scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Select POWERTRAIN SPECIAL FUNCTIONS and then OUTPUT CONTROLS for CRUISE INHIBIT. While observing INHIBIT ENABLE LED on cruise control tester, command scan tool to enable cruise control. If LED dims, go to next step. If LED does not dim, go to step  30 .
  17. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control tester and reconnect wiring harness to cruise control module. Road test vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Operate cruise control system. Using scan tool, observe CRUISE INHIBIT status. If scan tool displays ENABLED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ENABLED, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  18. If cruise control system operates normally, problem is intermittent. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If cruise control system does not operate normally, go to step  33 .
  19. Reconnect all components. Road test vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Operate cruise control system. If cruise control system operates normally, problem is intermittent. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If cruise control system does not operate normally, go to step  33 .
  20. Test for open, high resistance or short to ground in ignition voltage circuit (Brown wire) of cruise control module. If problem was found, repair as necessary and then go to step  36 . If problem was not found, go to next step.
  21. Repair high resistance or open in ground circuit (Black/White wire) of cruise control module. If problem was found, repair as necessary and then go to step  36 . If problem was not found, go to step  33 .
