Installation Procedure

  1. If vehicle is a sport utility vehicle, install the exhaust heat shield to the studs.

    Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.

  2. Install the exhaust heat shield nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the exhaust heat shield nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  4. If vehicle is a crew cab pick-up truck, install the exhaust heat shield(s) to the studs.
  5. Install the exhaust heat shield nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the exhaust heat shield nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  7. If vehicle is a extended cab pick-up truck, install the exhaust heat shield (1, 2) to the studs.
  8. Install the exhaust heat shield nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the exhaust heat shield nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  10. If vehicle is a regular cab pick-up truck, install the exhaust front heat shield (1) and/or the exhaust heat shield (2) to the studs.
  11. Install the exhaust heat shield nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the exhaust heat shield nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  13. Install the exhaust front heat shield to the studs.
  14. Install the exhaust front heat shield nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the exhaust heat shield nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  15. Install the catalytic converter, if necessary. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (6.0 L and 8.1 L Engines) , Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.8L and 5.3L Engines) .
  16. Install the exhaust manifold pipe, if necessary. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement (6.0 L, 6.6 L, and 8.1 L Engines) .
